Skipper Kevin Escoffier, a veteran of The Ocean Race who is leading Team Holcim-PRB, steered his IMOCA over the finishing line off Mindelo, Cabo Verde just after 01:00 local time this morning, to win Leg One of The Ocean Race. Escoffier and his team led for the majority of Leg One, passing the US-flagged 11th Hour Racing Team when they tore their headsail in a tacking duel.
“I am very happy to start like this,” said Escoffier. “I don’t want the others to think that they can catch up with us at certain speeds. When the others speed up, we speeded up twice as much to show that we still had some speed left!” – Full report
